The Adolescent/Young Adult Medical Practice at Children's Hospital Boston provides expert evaluation and medical treatment for adolescents and young adults with common and complex medical problems.
Teen pregnancy changes family dynamics because parents have to confront the fact that their child is sexually active. Emotionally, adolescent girls are going through major hormonal changes and there is an even bigger hormonal flux when that is paired with pregnancy. Socially, they may become part of the gossip ring at their school. A teen mother's life drastically changes, and her relationships with her girlfriends may suffer. The financial burden is huge, with the cost of raising a baby estimated at $11,000 in the first year alone.*

Ninety-four percent of adults in the United States-and 91 percent of teenagers-think it important that school-aged children and teenagers be given a strong message from society that they should abstain from sex until they are out of high school. Seventy-eight percent of adults also think that sexually active teenagers should have access to contraception to prevent teen pregnancy."
This is helpful because it is giving information on how to prevent pregnancy. Abstinence is the best way to prevent pregnancy, but if you feel that you are ready, condoms should always be used.
SERVICES FOR OUR YOUTH: Teenage Pregnancy
Being a parent can be difficult at times, learning how to properly care for and nurture a baby or toddler, not to mention the teen years. Even the most well adjusted adult may have times when it seems all too overwhelming. Now, imagine that you are between 12-21 years of age and find out that you are pregnant. The emotions that are felt can range from confusion, denial to severe depression. The reality is that 34% of girls become pregnant at least once before the age of 20. Teenage pregnancy and parenting can pose many challenges for both young women and the young fathers who are experiencing their own feelings.
The Children's Center’s Teenage Parenting program provides services to both young women and young men who are pregnant or parenting. The goal is to offer the emotional and mental support through one-on-one therapy, as well as constructive and structured group settings. The program also offers additional support in the areas of life skills and parenting workshops as well as support of continuing educational goals. The focus of services includes all identified family members in order to build a support network that will assist young parents to become successful adults and responsible parents.

The Alliance works to ensure that Massachusetts’ youth have access to comprehensive pregnancy prevention services and that pregnant and parenting teens and their children have the resources and support they need to thrive. Our means for achieving these outcomes are to educate, empower and support young people and the adults who work with them to become leaders on the issue of teen pregnancy prevention and the needs of young parents.
I think this website is helpful to young people because not only does it work to prevent them from making bad decisions and becoming pregnant, it also provides a place of support for those who already have children. They hold meeting and teach the young parents how to properly care for their child and help not to make the same mistake as they did.
